Police investigate anonymous threat to Medford High School
The high school was placed into "secure" mode while police conducted a canine search for ballistics.
The following was submitted by Dr. Suzanne B. Galusi.
This morning at 8:32 a.m., Medford High School received an anonymous phone call that threatened the school. In accordance with our established safety protocols, the building was immediately placed into "Secure" mode.
The Medford Police Department (MPD) responded to investigate the report. As part of a comprehensive safety assessment, the MPD conducted a precautionary canine search for ballistics. Given the significant size of the Medford High School campus and our student population, this process took some time to complete thoroughly.
We appreciate the patience and cooperation of our students and staff during this time, as a thorough search is essential to ensuring the safety of the facility.
We can confirm that these searches found no credible threats, and the police department determined that the building was safe. The building was released from the secure mode by lunch and the school resumed normal operations. To provide continued reassurance and support, a modest MPD presence remained on campus for the rest of the day.
We are aware that there is misinformation circulating on social media about today’s event. Please rely on our district communication for the most current and accurate information.
In the coming days, district leadership and public safety officials will conduct a formal after-action review. This process allows us to evaluate our response, inform future training, and further enhance our safety protocols.
We recognize that events of this nature can be unsettling for our students, staff, and families. Please be assured that the safety and well-being of the MPS community is our top priority. Our actions are always centered on that commitment, and school counselors in all of our buildings are available to any students who may need support or a space to talk.
MPS values all members of our community. We work to ensure that our schools remain a safe, secure, and supportive environment for every student and staff member. Thank you for your continued partnership and trust.
