Happy Wednesday, everybody. A couple of reminders this morning, and then we're all about the happenings.

The city is still looking for barbers and hair stylists to volunteer their time at the Back-to-School Resource Day to give free hair cuts to students. The event is on Aug. 24 at City Hall and runs from 5 to 7 p.m. There will be four offices available for hair cuts, and volunteers are welcome to bring business signs, banners, table coverings, etc. Click here to sign up.

Also, the school supply drive is still on. Donations of new supplies will be taken through August 17. You can drop them off at City Hall at the mayor's Office (Room 202) and the Office of Prevention and Outreach (Room 205). The supplies are listed on Amazon. If you order supplies online, you can have them shipped directly to: Medford City Hall, 84 George P. Hassett Drive, Room 202, Medford, MA 02155.

Senior Center Activities: Tech and MBTA support at 9 a.m. – call to reserve your spot, 781-396-6010; zumba gold at 10 a.m.; Thai chi at 11 a.m.; bingo at 1 p.m.; movie at 1 p.m.; Silver Solidarity with Nike at 1 p.m.

  • Jayna Stafford of Housing Families is available for seniors to discuss legal issues from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. and learn about free legal services. Call 781-396-6010 to schedule a 30-minute appointment.
  • Jessica Phelan of Mystic Valley Aging Services is available from 12:30 to 1:30 p.m. to assist seniors in finding support groups, one-on-one therapy, and other wellbeing services.

Medford Square Runners meet at 6:45 a.m. in front of Donuts with a Difference for a 5-6-mile run. This is a zero-drop run, meaning the group runs for a little bit and then stops to let everybody catch up if necessary. Group asks that all runners are able to keep a minimum pace of 10 minutes per mile.

Playgroups at the Park - Capen Street from 9 to 10:30 a.m. with Medford Family Network. Event for children up to age 8 includes art, music, and movement activities, balls, bubbles, parachute play, and storytelling.

Sisters in Sweat Exercise Group at 9:30 a.m. at West Medford Community Center Monday, Wednesday, and Friday. Walking and other self-led, low-impact activities.

Practicing English Conversation ESOL Class at 10 a.m. at Medford Public Library for beginning English learners.

Babes in the Woods Hike from 10 to 11:30 a.m. with Friends of the Fells for caregivers/parents carrying babies. This is an adult-paced hike and is not recommended for young children who walk. Meet at the Flynn Rink. Register in advance.

Swiftie Dance Party at 10:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library for all ages, featuring Taylor Swift's kid-friendly hits.

Story time at Moon and Back Bookstore at 10:30 a.m. Today's selection is "A Book for Escargot," by Dashka Slater and illustrated by Sydney Hanson.

Build Confidence in Speaking English: Session 7 from 12 to 1 p.m. via Zoom. Sponsored by Medford Public Library. The course is for adult English learners at a beginner level. Register to receive the Zoom link.

Paddle Boston – Medford from 12 to 7:30 p.m. at the Condon Shell, weather permitting. Walk-up anytime to rent a boat. Limited advanced reservations also available. Last boat goes out at 6:30 p.m. All boats must be returned by 7:30 p.m.

Tech Help Drop In Hour at 2 p.m. at Medford Public Library. Librarians will be on hand to help you with anything tech related.

Tween Graphic Novel Book Club at 3:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for readers in grades 5-8. This month's book selection is "Yummy: A History of Desserts," by Victoria Grace Elliott. Registration required.

Board of Assessors meeting at 4 p.m. at City Hall and via Zoom. On the agenda: motor vehicle abatements and motor vehicle commitment; FY2027 personal exemption, CPA exemption, and deferral applications; FY2027 valuation update. The board will then go into executive session to discuss abatement applications and settlement agreements.

Medford Peer Recovery Group meets at 4:30 p.m. in room 201 at City Hall. Drop-in.

Hormel Stadium Commission meeting at 5 p.m. via Zoom. On the agenda: welcome new board member Ryan O'Keefe; discussion about the information boards behind Hormel and the SeeClickFix report sent over by the mayor; finance reports.

Vinyl Night from 5 to 8 p.m. at Tamper Cafe.

Community Development Board meeting at 6:30 p.m. via Zoom. On the agenda: continued public hearing regarding zoning amendment – development incentive bonuses for affordable housing; board rules and regulations.

Jackbox Game Night for teens 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Medford Public Library. Games may include Quiplash, Drawful, Talking Points, and more.

Boston Frisbee Wednesday Nights Under the Lights from 6 to 8 p.m. at Tufts Park. Ultimate Frisbee game open to everyone, and nobody keeps score.

Make + Mingle from 7 to 9 p.m. at Arts Collaborative Medford. Free drop-in for anybody to create among other artists and artist-types. Bring your own sketchbook and/or art projects and, if you can, snacks and drinks to share. RSVP appreciated.
