Medford resident Simon Sharp, pictured above with his parents, was diagnosed with MSMDS (Multisystemic Smooth Muscle Dysfunction Syndrome) when he was 9 months old. A fundraiser happening today through The Ford Tavern will benefit research into this very rare disease caused by a genetic mutation.

During The Ford Tavern's Dine for Simon fundraiser, 10% of all dine-in and take-out food sales for today will be donated to research for MSMDS. In addition, Simon's mom Jackie will be at The Ford hosting a raffle fundraiser beginning at 5 p.m.

Jackie recently posted to Facebook, "My son Simon has a rare genetic disorder that causes strokes and aneurysms at a very young age - often before puberty, and sometimes even before school age. ACTA2 Alliance is a parent-led nonprofit that donates directly to the labs and researchers (many are here at MGH!) who are working to create a treatment for the mere dozens of other children who have been diagnosed with this condition. There are fewer than 100 diagnoses worldwide, and you can imagine it's a very close-knit community."
