Good morning, Medford, Monday, June 22
Happy Monday, everybody. We've got a shout-out for middle school musicians today and a word about a gold tournament to benefit Medford Family Network.
The Middle School String Ensemble recently took home the gold medal at the Massachusetts Instrumental and Choral Conductors Association competition. They followed that up with a performance during a School Committee meeting and left the mayor wanting to hear more.
During the June 15 School Committee meeting, the ensemble played Norman Leyden's "Serenade for Strings IV. Cakewalk," without a conductor. After the performance, Mayor Breann Lungo-Koehn asked, "Is that it? Is there more? I was hoping for another one."
Sophia Chang, who is their music teacher and the orchestra teacher for the district, thanked all the students and parents for their hard work. She also thanked everyone, including the School Committee, for their continued support of the program and students.
A word about a benefit for the Medford Family Network, and then we'll get to today's calendar.
The Tee It Up for Billy Golf Tournament, which benefits children in Medford, is being hosted today by Medford Invitational Tournaments (MIT4KIDS) and Medford Family Network at the Hillview in North Reading.
We wanted to mention it today because if you want to participate in the effort, you don't need to be a golfer. You can email Ron Giovino, who is the president and CEO of Medford Invitational Tournaments, at rgiov21@comcast.net to find out how to make a donation or to otherwise help in the effort. In the subject line, put MIT4KIDS Golf.
