Remember those manhole fires that shut down Medford Square on June 27? It just so happened that a show was scheduled at the Chevalier Theatre that evening. "Comedy Bang Bang! Ground Beefing Tour 2026" was cancelled at the last minute.
Mia Rosen, who is the press and promotions coordinator for Chevalier Theatre, The Wilbur, and Bill Blumenreich Presents, submitted to GKM a photo, above, and information about something fun that was done for the show's cast to mark a most "unusual cancellation."
The show, which features host Scott Aukerman with Paul F. Tompkins and The Comedy Bang! Bang! All-Stars performing an improvised version of their award-winning podcast, was rescheduled for October 7. It was, Rosen said, a success.
Rosen wrote in her email to GKM, "To mark the occasion (and poke a little fun at the unusual cancellation), The Chevalier and Bill Blumenreich Presents presented the show with a custom-made commemorative manhole cover."
That is a story the cast will be telling for years to come, because who else had on their bingo card "show canceled because of manhole fires"?
