We've got three good things for Medford to mention this morning.

This first one isn't for all of Medford, but still. Zone 7 is catching a break today on the parking restrictions related to street sweeping. Sweeping has been canceled because of rain in the forecast, so Zone 7 will be bumped to the end of the queue. Click here if you are not sure which zone you are in.

In the second good thing, the mayor's office announced yesterday that Medford has received a grant of almost $35,000 from the Massachusetts Executive Office of Public Safety and Security. With this Firefighter Safety Equipment Grant, the city will buy six new radios that will enable fire personnel to communicate more effectively with police and mutual aid partners.

"Radios serve as the primary platform for resource coordination, dispatch communications, and Emergency Operations Center connectivity during routine and large-scale incidents," the announcement said.

“Several of our trucks are equipped with radios that are over 20 years old, exceeding their service life, and becoming incompatible with technology used by our partners,” Fire Chief Todd Evans said in the statement. “This grant funding will help us close a communications gap and improve our overall department efficiency.”

The radios will be deployed on five fire trucks and one command vehicle.

And, third: A new exhibit is opening at the Medford Historical Society and Museum this coming Sunday. "1776 and Beyond" will focus on the original Declaration of Independence and explore how Medford residents have kept it alive from the 18th century to the present. Read more in the graphic above.
