We're barreling towards the primary, and there are just a few weeks to go before early voting starts. There are going to be debates in Somerville this Saturday among the Democratic candidates in several races. And, we have the monster 3-day GKM calendar.
There are going to be three debates on Saturday for open-seat Democratic primaries.
Saturday, August 1, from 5 to 8 p.m., at the East Somerville Community School, the Somerville Democratic City Committee will host debates with the candidates for the 27th and 34th Middlesex House districts and the 2nd Middlesex Senate district. Here is the schedule:
- 5 p.m.: 34th Middlesex, House: Will Mbah, Chris Oates, and Paul Ruseau
- 6 p.m.: 2nd Middlesex, Senate: Burhan Azeem, Christine Barber, Matthew McLaughlin, and Erika Uyterhoeven. (Thomas Hopcroft has withdrawn from the race.)
- 7 p.m.: 27th Middlesex, House: Ben Ewen-Campen and Olivia Gilligan-Corsetti

Paddle Boston – Medford from 12 to 8 p.m. at the Condon Shell, weather permitting. (Saturday and Sunday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m.) Walk-up anytime to rent a boat. Limited advanced reservations also available. Last boat goes out at 7 p.m. All boats must be returned by 8 p.m.
Outdoor Play with Miss Cindy - All Ages! from 2 to 4 p.m. at Magoun Park, sponsored by Medford Family Network. Parent/child interactive activities including circle time, problem solving activities, games we used to play.

Art Explorers: Thiebaud Cake Sculptures Make + Take Workshop from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Arts Collaborative Medford for kids ages 5-10. Alex Kessler leads this workshop, in which students will design and color their own cardboard cake templates before folding and assembling them into three-dimensional sculptures. Then, they will decorate them.
Mystic Walkers at 11 a.m. at Hormel Stadium. All ages and abilities are welcome to join. The group will decide where the walk will go.
Kier Byrnes Freedom Runners at 11 a.m. starting at Medford Brewing. Choose from several different loops or create your own. All are welcome.
First Baptist Church Coffee Hour at 12 p.m. Informal coffee hour in Memorial Hall.
School of Rock Summer Mid-Season Showcase from 12 to 3 p.m. at the Condon Shell. Live music, including pop punk and Emo, and roots of rock-n-roll.
