Good morning, Medford, Wednesday, May 13
Happy Wednesday, everybody. It's going to be a busy day, from Sisters in Sweat at the West Medford Community Center to city meetings regarding the high school building project, zoning, and more.
We received an announcement from retiring Medford Scoutmaster Jim Austin saying Medford Troop 416 is now open to all youth.
"Medford’s historic Scout Troop 416, formerly known as Boy Scout Troop 416, has changed its name and its admissions policies," Austin said in the announcement. "Last year, the national scouting organization changed its name to Scouting America, reflecting that more than 200,000 girls nationwide are already participating in scouting. A new troop structure, called a 'family troop,' has made it even easier to include girls in the troop."
Austin said he wants to remind the community, "Being a Cub Scout, which serves youth starting at age 5, is not a prerequisite for joining the Medford 416 Scouting America Troop. Troop 416 is open to all youth from ages 11 to 17. We do not discriminate on the basis of race, gender, religion, nationality, sexual orientation or disabilities."
To learn more about scouting, Austin said, contact Committee Chair Becky Ashihara at chair@troop416medford.org or the scoutmasters at scoutmasters@troop416.org. (Please note that Girl Scouts is a separate organization that also serves Medford but is not affiliated with Scouting America.)
