Good morning, Medford, Friday, July 17

It's Friday, and that means it's time for the monster, 3-day, GKM calendar. We've got the scoop on events and activities for all ages, abilities, and interests.

Happy Friday, everybody. We're talking sports this morning, and not just professional sports.

Of course, the World Cup final is this weekend, with Spain playing Argentina on Sunday for the trophy. There's also a game on Saturday, with England battling France for third place. Even if you're not a soccer fan, you might enjoy the energy the cup has brought to town, especially if you watch a game at one of the many Medford establishments streaming them.

The Glory, Boston's ultimate Frisbee team, is taking on the Montreal Royal Saturday at 7 p.m. at Hormel Stadium. This is the final home game for the Glory's regular season.

There are also some running and walking events this weekend.

This morning, there are two walking events for seniors that start at 9:30. The Walking Club takes off from the Senior Center, and the Sisters in Sweat walk and do other low-impact activities from the West Medford Community Center.

On Saturday, there's the 12 Hours of Lawrence Woods running race. This is a 5-mile race that takes place in Lawrence Woods, which is behind the high school. If you do not want to run, you can just hang out or volunteer.

On Sunday, you could join the Mystic Walkers for a stroll starting at 11 a.m. at Hormel Stadium or go for a run with the Kier Byrnes Freedom Runners starting at 11 a.m. at Medford Brewing.

Friday, July 17

Senior Center Activities: Walking Club at 9:30 a.m.; community drumming circle at 9:30 a.m.; Low-Vision Support G, facilitated by Alan White at 10 a.m.; Latin dance class with Judit at 10:30 a.m.; Chinese English class at 11 a.m.; storyteller/comedian David Shikes performs at 1 p.m.

Sisters in Sweat Exercise Group at 9:30 a.m. at West Medford Community Center. Walking and other low-impact activities for seniors.

History of Nintendo from 12 to 3 p.m. at Medford Public Library. A playable Nintendo museum for all ages. Players will learn about how Nintendo started and see how the iconic console evolved to where it is today.

Wesleaf – Design with Plants in Mind Grand Opening from 12 to 7 p.m. at 458 Salem Street. The event will be "an afternoon of plants, community, lite bites, and good vibes."

Outdoor Play with Miss Cindy - All Ages! from 2 to 4 p.m. at Magoun Park, sponsored by Medford Family Network. Parent/child interactive activities including circle time, problem solving activities, games we used to play.

MakerSpace Drop-In from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for adults and teens age 16+ to work on personal projects or ask the in-house expert about how to use the space and equipment.

Redemption Hill Church hosts a church-wide picnic at 5:30 p.m. at Morrison Park. The church will provide games and Popsicles. Bring your own food, blanket, and a friend.

Indoor Friends / The Eyetraps / Sailor Down perform starting at 7 p.m. at Deep Cuts.

Saturday, July 18

12 Hours of Lawrence Woods from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. at Lawrence Woods in the Fells behind Medford High School. This is a 5-mile running race, but if you do not want to run, you can just hang out or volunteer. Registration and bib pickup is at 7 a.m. The course opens at 8 a.m.

Intermediate Knitting: Lace from 9 to 11:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library for adults to learn basic lace stitches, how to read charts, and how to use a lifeline, and you'll knit some lace samples. Go to the link to see what you need to do before the class. Register.

Antique Collectibles Appraisal from 9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library with Rick Keller from Perfect Pastime 617. Register for a 10-minute time-slot to have your items appraised.

Family Story Time at 10 a.m. at Medford Public Library for children ages 3-7 to explore new concepts with books and songs. Parents and caregivers are welcome to join in.

Chess Club from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Medford Public Library. Medford Chess Club meets in the Cafe Space at the Library on Saturdays at 10 a.m. in July and August.

Spanish Fun Time at 10:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library for children ages 1-4. Children are encouraged to fully engage with the movement and games and to use as much Spanish vocabulary as possible. Registration required.

Spanish Fun Time for children ages 5-11 at 11 a.m. at Medford Public Library. Registration required.

Tech Drop-In Hour at 11:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library. An experienced volunteer will be available to help you with any programs you are interested in using.

West Medford Senior Club Grand Ol' Barbeque Fundraiser from noon to 4 p.m. at West Medford Community Center. For tickets, call Norma at 781-520-1734.

Medford in Motion at 1 p.m. Local historian Dee Morris leads this history walking tour at Haines Square and Fellsway West. Meet at the Haines Square mural on the Fellsway Theatre building next to the large parking lot abutting Target. Register via Medford Public Library.

Brews, Beats & Bites with Medford Brewing from 1 to 5 p.m. at Clippership Pop-Up Park. Family-friendly event with live music, food trucks and craft beer.

"Dino Soccer" Storytime at 2:30 pm. at Moon and Back Bookstore.

Fluid Soul on the Mystic River at 5:30 p.m. at Torbert McDonald State Park. The event features, "music that connects deeply with nature, created by acclaimed saxophonist Phil Scarff and brought to life through dance by Odissi artist Mouli Pal." Bring a blanket or chair.

Boston Glory versus Montreal Royal at 7 p.m. at Hormel Stadium. This is the final home game for the Glory's regular season.

Sunday, July 19

Sunday Sound Bath with Hendrik from 9:30 to 11 a.m. at Arts Collaborative Medford. A performance of sound that is intended to relax, to spiritually heal, and to create a meditative state. Bring a yoga mat or cushion.

Mystic Walkers at 11 a.m. at Hormel Stadium. All ages and abilities are welcome to join. The group will decide where the walk will go.

Kier Byrnes Freedom Runners at 11 a.m. at Medford Brewing. Choose from several different loops or create your own. All are welcome.

First Baptist Church Coffee Hour at 12 p.m. Informal coffee hour in Memorial Hall.

Medford Historical Society and Museum is open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Current exhibit is, "1776 and beyond," but there are also many other resources to explore.
