A free flea market is on tap for Medford Saturday, May 24, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sponsored by the city and Tufts University, the event will take place at Fletcher Field, 111 Professors Row on the Tufts campus, and in people’s yards throughout the city.

According to information submitted by the Medford Office of Planning, Development & Sustainability, the goals of the Medford Free Flea are to reduce consumption, to promote sustainable practices, and to share resources within the community.

Everything will be offered for free, and the public is welcome to “shop.” Tufts students and Medford residents are welcome to offer their household goods for free and can participate in one of two ways: reserve a spot at Fletcher Field or host a mini free flea at their residence.

Lots of information is being provided online in a resource guide that includes a Q&A. You can find the guide at bit.ly/MedfordFreeFlea2025.

How to participate

The deadline is May 17 to sign up for a spot at Fletcher or to register your address to host your own flea. (If you register to host your own flea, your address will be added to the Google map.) Sign up or register here.

All kinds of items are welcome, such as kitchenware, books, electronics, clothing and other textiles, but everything has to be in usable condition. If you are offering electronics, they need to work properly.

If you want to “shop”
Anyone is welcome, and there will be a Google map that shows the locations of participants. Check out the Free Flea Market Google Map by visiting bit.ly/MedfordFreeFleaMap

If it rains
The event will still go on, regardless of the weather. If it rains, however, it will take place in Breed Memorial Hall at 51 Winthrop Street. Local residents who have signed up to host their own free flea can cancel.
