We have three briefs for you before we get to the happenings.

1. A fire on August 19 displaced Donny Nicolosi and four members of his family from their home on Sydney Street in Medford. Andrea Muldoon has organized a Go Fund Me and has indicated the family needs funding for: Continued hotel stays and temporary housing; food, clothing, toiletries, medications, and daily necessities; replacing essential belongings affected by the fire; transportation and costs associated with finding stable housing; cleanup, recovery, and the many unexpected expenses that follow a house fire.
2. The Back-to-School Resource Day is happening today from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Hall. Even if you did not register in time for qualify for the free haircuts and backpacks, there will still be activities and resources for you, including: vaccines for children and teens; help finding a doctor and scheduling appointments; MassHealth enrollment and assistance; healthy school snacks; community resources and information; kids' activities, and more.
3. GKM is considering changing to a once-weekly newsletter, instead of the five days per week we've been doing. But, before we do anything, we'd like to hear from you. What do you prefer? Take this 3-question survey and let us know what you think.

Senior Center Activities: dominoes/cribbage at 10 a.m.; Al-anon support group at 10:30 a.m.; whist for all levels at 12:30 p.m.; country line dancing at 12:45 p.m.; Joyful Voices at 2 p.m.

Library Board of Trustees meeting at 9:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library and via Zoom. On the agenda: director's report, update on the digitization project, and old business. The board will then go into executive session.

Sisters-in-Sweat Exercise Group at 9:30 a.m. at West Medford Community Center. Walking and other self-led, low impact activities.

Outdoor Play with Cindy from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Magoun Park for children ages 4-6 and caregivers. Interactive activities include circle time, problem solving activities, games we used to play.

Chair and Standing Yoga at 11 a.m. at Medford Public Library. Gentle yoga for everyone.

Paddle Boston – Medford from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Condon Shell, weather permitting. Walk-up anytime to rent a boat. Limited advanced reservations also available. Last boat goes out at 6 p.m. All boats must be returned by 7 p.m.

Back-to-School Resource Day from 5 to 7 p.m. at City Hall. Event is for Medford families and there will be activities, community resources, healthy snacks and more.

School Committee meeting at 5 p.m. via Zoom, TV, and streaming channels. Agenda includes: approval of bills and payroll; approval of $35K donation for the CCSR program; reports of subcommittees; superintendent's report, including retirement of Joan Bowen, MPS wellness policy, Roberts HVAC design approval, and FY27 capital projects adjustments; presentations of the Student Advisory Council; rules of the School Committee; regular, standardized assessments across the district; E-bike safety education; the possibility that the FCC may cut or discontinue funding the E-Rate program, which was created by Congress to lower the costs of broadband internet access and internal network connections for schools and libraries.

Ultimate Frisbee pickup from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Tufts Park with Davis Square Ultimate. RSVP.

MakerSpace Drop-In from 6 to 8 p.m. at Medford Public Library for adults and teens 16+ work on their personal projects or ask the in-house expert about how to use the space and equipment.

Homopolar Motors at 6:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for teens in middle school and high school to learn about charge and polarity before making a spinning piece of art called a homopolar motor. All materials will be provided. Registration is required.

Friends of the Medford Public Library Board meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library. If you are interested in joining the Friends or volunteering, you are welcome to attend.
