Happy Monday, everybody. Let's go, let's go, let's go. There are some important things to have on your radar for this week.

  1. When the School Committee meets tonight, they will be looking at preliminary FY2027 budget recommendations. The meeting starts at 6 p.m. and you can watch it by Zoom if you can't make it in person. Even if you do not have kids in school in Medford, it's important to stay up on the budget. These are your tax dollars at work. And, the city is looking at building a new high school.
  2. The city just completed a comprehensive economic assessment, and there is going to be a presentation about it at the Medford Public Library Wednesday, April 8, at noon. The report was conducted by the Economic and Public Policy Research Group at the University of Massachusetts’ Donahue Institute. The report is available online now, and is packed with information about the city's demographics, industries, business climate, traffic and congestion, and the effects of the high cost of living, and it identifies strengths and weaknesses. In a recent news release about the study, the mayor's office wrote, "City staff will use the findings to inform policy decisions, prioritize initiatives, and collaborate with community partners on implementation strategies going forward."
  3. The City Council and School Committee will hold a joint session Wednesday, April 8, at 6 p.m. in City Hall and via Zoom to discuss the budget process, including the schedule of upcoming meetings.

There are also some fun events to have on your radar:

  • School Play: The Medford High School Drama Club presents "13 The Musical" April 11 and 12 in the Caron Theater at the High School.
