Summer is waning, the light is changing, pollinators are moving slow most mornings, and some days there's a hint of October in the air.
Which is all to say that after Labor Day, schools will be in full swing, city meetings will ramp back up, and there will be many events in the days ahead.
Right now, we want to wish you all a great Labor Day weekend and Monday holiday. We hope you have some time to gather with family and friends, or spend some much-needed time by yourself, or take in an activity, whatever you want to do.

Friday, Sept. 4
Senior Center Activities: Walking Club at 9:30 a.m.; Latin dance with Judit at 10:30 a.m.; Chinese/English class at 11:30 a.m.
- Community Drumming Circle from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Explore hand-drumming techniques and rhythms from West Africa and beyond with an experienced instructor. There will also be games and exercises. No experience is necessary, and loaner drums will be available. Call 781-396-6010 to reserve a seat.
Medford Family Network registration for play and learn groups is taking place every day through Tuesday, Sept. 8. These groups are for Medford families only. Follow the link to register.
Sisters in Sweat Exercise Group at 9:30 a.m. at West Medford Community Center. Walking and other low-impact activities for seniors.
Paddle Boston – Medford from 12 to 7 p.m. at the Condon Shell, weather permitting. Walk-up anytime to rent a boat. Limited advanced reservations also available. Last boat goes out at 6 p.m. All boats must be returned by 7 p.m. (Saturday and Sunday hours are 8:30 a.m. to 7 p.m. Last boat goes out at 6 p.m.)
MakerSpace Drop-In from 4 to 5:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for adults and teens age 16+ to work on personal projects or ask the in-house expert about how to use the space and equipment.
Drawn Together Conversation Circle at 6 p.m. at Arts Collaborative Medford with Rev. Wendy Miller Olapade. Event inspired by Ethan LeBlanc and Luz Palou García's "[Hot] Tamales: Home Is a Feeling" exhibit. Wander the exhibition and explore what you inherit, what you remake, and what somehow tells you that you are home. Free and open to all. Register.
Zola Simone album release show, with Shallow Pools and TWAM beginning at 7 p.m. at Deep Cuts.

Saturday, Sept. 5
Story time at 2:30 p.m. at Moon and Back Bookstore. The book will be "Little Blue Truck Lost and Found," by Alice Schertle, Illustrated by Jill McElmurry.
Physical Media Night from 6 to 11 p.m. at Deep Cuts. Event includes a pop-up shop, an all-cassette DJ set, and a screening of "High Fidelity," starring John Cusack.
Grace Marshall Band performs from 9 to 11:59 p.m. at The Great American Beer Hall.
Sunday, Sept. 6
90mm Meadow History and Ecology Hike from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. with Kyle McGrath and Friends of the Fells. Explore the remains of the Korean War-era air defense base in the 90mm Meadow, learning the history, ecological importance and restoration. Park in the DCR lot behind Medford High School. Register.
Mystic Walkers at 11 a.m. at Hormel Stadium. All ages and abilities are welcome to join. The group will decide where the walk will go.
Kier Byrnes Freedom Runners at 11 a.m. starting at Medford Brewing. Choose from several different loops or create your own. All are welcome.
Coffee Hour at St. Raphael following the morning Masses. Coffee and Munchkins in the courtyard for parishioners and visitors to connect with friends new and old.
Hillside Community Church Coffee & Connection from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. A low-key coffee hour following worship — a chance to share some snacks, sip something warm, and have real conversation with folks you might not have met yet.
First Baptist Church Coffee Hour at 12 p.m. Informal coffee hour in Memorial Hall following services.
Medford Historical Society and Museum is open on Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m. Current exhibit is, "1776 and beyond," but there are also many other resources to explore.
