Medford digs out from 14 inches of snow

Medford was digging out from Winter Storm Fern, which dropped at least 14 inches of snow Jan. 25-26.

Millions of people from New Mexico to New England saw the harsh effects of Winter Storm Fern, which blasted 24 states with endless snow and ice. At least 26 people have died as a result of the storm, thousands are without power and many more are stranded in airports as flights were cancelled.

Here in Medford, the storm dropped at least 14 inches of snow from when it started early Sunday morning, Jan. 25, through the night and into the morning of Monday, Jan. 26.

Flurries were still falling Monday afternoon as Medford residents dug out. Many stores in downtown were closed, as was City Hall and Medford Public Schools.

The National Weather Service has predicted some additional light snow from Jan. 26 through Jan. 29, about 2 inches in the greater Boston area. In addition, temperatures are expected to drop.
