Artist Megan Polcaro's piece "Ancient Queen" is on display in the front lobby at Medford City Hall. GOTTA KNOW MEDFORD PHOTO/Wendall Waters

Medford, Wednesday, Feb. 18

It's Wednesday in Medford and there's lots happening, including fun events and important municipal meetings. And, possibly more snow in the evening. Did we just say that?!

Megan Polcaro is one of the artists whose works are on display in the lobby at Medford City Hall. Her display includes a piece titled “Ancient Queen,” a horseshoe crab molt decorated with jewelry. The molt is the shell the animal leaves behind when it molts as it grows. You can often find them on beaches in Massachusetts. Horseshoe crabs have been on earth for some 350 million years, and in all that time they have changed very little.

Check out all the artists' works the next time you go to City Hall.

It looks like Medford could have some rain-snow action this evening. Be careful during your evening commute. In the meantime, however, there is still plenty of mushy snow on the ground that is perfect for kids to make a snowman or other snow creature. We would love to showcase their creations in an upcoming newsletter, so send us a photo at gottaknowmedford@gmail.com.

  • Medford Square rezoning: There will be a presentation about it at the Senior Center on Feb. 19 at 1 p.m. Gotta Know Medford will be there. In fact, we’ll be there starting at  noon and would be happy to meet with seniors just to say hi and/or to hear about any issues you'd like to see us cover.
  • Chris will attend the Liquor License Commission disciplinary hearing regarding The Great American Beer Hall and will fill you in on what, if anything, comes of it.

In case you missed it

Congratulations are in order for Medford Boxer Greg Bono, who won his bout last Saturday in Glove at First Fight. Chris Hurley caught up with Greg after the fight.

Medford boxer Greg Bono shines at Glove at First Fight
Sporting black trunks with gold tassels, the hard-throwing, 5-foot-6, 160-pound right-hander unloaded some potent roundhouse rights, putting Vargas on the defensive early.
