Good morning, Medford, Tuesday, September 8

There's a big week ahead, Medford. Municipal meetings get back underway tonight with the Traffic Commission, Community Preservation Committee, and the Community Garden Commission. And, there is a full day and evening of happenings.

There are a few things to have on your radar for this week because you'll need to do some planning and/or register:

1. The Medford Fire Local 1032 Annual Golf Tournament is Friday, September 11. The graphic with information about the event and sponsorships is below.
2. The Junior Fishing Derby sponsored by the Recreation Department and Medford Police is Saturday, Sept. 12, from 8:30 a.m. to 12 p.m., at Wright's Pond. The details are on the Recreation Department website.
3. Household Hazardous Waste Collection Day is Saturday, Sept. 12, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m., at Andrews Middle School. Read the details about what is accepted, how to transport the chemicals, and how much it will cost you.
4. The Medford Free Flea Market is on Saturday as well, from 12 to 6 p.m., at the Tufts Interfaith Center on Winthrop Street. It's a collaboration between Tufts and Zero Waste Medford. Follow the link to find out how to participate, whether you want to donate items or just go "shopping."
5. The Medford Recovery Fest is happening Saturday from 1 to 3 p.m. at the Condon Shell to "celebrate recovery, connection, hope, and the people whose lives have been touched by substance use." It's a free, family-friendly event with music, food, activities, resources, and support.

Medford Family Network registration for play and learn groups is taking place all day today. These groups are for Medford families only. Follow the link to register.

Playgroups at the Park from 9 to 11 a.m. at Carr Park. Hosted by Medford Family Network, the event features art, music, and movement activities, parachute play, bubbles, balls, and storytelling.

Baby Lapsit at 9:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library. Drop-in story time with songs, rhymes, and gentle movement activities for babies up to 24 months old and parents and caregivers.

Drop-In Playtime from 10 to 11:30 a.m. at Medford Family Network Family Center.

New Social Environment at 1 p.m. Sponsored by Tufts, this is an online event with the Brooklyn Rail featuring a conversation with artist Arnold Kemp and art historian Sampada Aranke. RSVP.

Drop-In Playtime from 2 to 4 p.m. at Medford Family Network Family Center.

Skill Issues at 3:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for teens in middle school and high school to learn new life skills, from sewing a button to managing finances. Registration required.

Mustang home games today: 4-6:30 p.m., varsity boys golf vs. Lynn Classical; 4:30-6 p.m. varsity and JV boys soccer teams vs. Somerville High.

Traffic Commission meeting at 5 p.m. via Zoom. Lengthy agenda includes requests for permit parking variances, handicap parking signs, stop signs, signs for no parking anytime, visitor passes, and more.

Fiber Craft Night from 6 to 8 p.m. at Medford Public Library for adults and teens ages 16+ to work on their own personal fiber craft projects. The library's in-house expert will be available to answer questions.

Community Preservation Committee meeting from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at City Hall and via Zoom. Agenda includes: TreesMedford small grant application for Barry Park/College Avenue tree plantings; application process review discussion; completed projects update; administrative updates.

Teen Movie Night - Bring Your Own Craft from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for teens in middle school and high school to work on a craft while watching "High School Musical 2." The library will have materials available for teens to make bracelets, or teens can bring their own projects work on. Registration appreciated.

Community Garden Commission meeting at 7 p.m. via Zoom. Agenda not posted online as of 10 p.m. Sept. 7.

Veteran and First Responder Recovery Group meets at 7 p.m. at First Baptist Church of Medford. All veterans and first responders are welcome on a drop-in basis.

Trivia Night from 7 to 9 p.m. at Medford Brewing. Teams of 2 to 6 players will compete in a traditional 6-round trivia quiz.

RIFF RAFF with DJ Waxxx Lips from 7 to 10 p.m. at Deep Cuts spinning punk girl group, garage, and rock 'n' roll.
