The rain storm forecast for this weekend is predicted to hit Cape Ann and Cape Cod the hardest, but according to WCVB Weather, heavy rains and high winds could affect the greater Boston area, too, and power outages are possible.
As of 10 p.m. last night, outdoor events scheduled for this weekend had not been canceled. These include Saturday's Cache Mystic River Celebration, Run Medford, which has outdoor races Friday and Saturday, and the Rotary Club pickleball fundraiser slated for Carr Park on Saturday.
Run Medford posted, "As of now, the event is ON and will take place rain or shine. However, the safety of our participants, volunteers, staff, and spectators is always our number one priority. Our team will continue to monitor conditions closely and make any necessary decisions based on the latest weather and safety information."
The organizers of the Mystic River Celebration are expected to make a decision on Friday afternoon.

ZBA meeting tonight
The only municipal meeting tonight is the Zoning Board of Appeals, and it will be via Zoom. They begin at 6 p.m. but may go right into executive session to discuss litigation. They will vote on that at the beginning of the meeting. If they go into executive session, the regular meeting would then start at 6:30 p.m., and they will discuss a number of continued and new cases.
Dropping today
Boston University student Karenna Keane will have a preview of Run Medford 2026, which will include planned road and lane closures for the Saturday 5K and 10K races.

Voices for Peace and Light Choir rehearsal at 12:10 p.m. at Goddard Chapel at Tufts. An interfaith, intergenerational choir whose membership is drawn from the entire Tufts community – graduate and undergraduate students, faculty, staff, alumni/ae, and neighbors.
Senior Knitting Club at 1 p.m. at West Medford Community Center. Beginners can learn from experienced crafters.
Fall Panel Presentations: 2026 Tisch Library Graduate Fellows in Arts and Humanities from 2 to 3:30 p.m. in the Tisch Library at Tufts. Fellows Andy Bainbridge (PhD, English), Sung-Min Kim (PhD, theatre and performance studies), Rhea Dias (MFA, studio art), and Anna Scott Powers (MA, art history) will present the research related to their thesis and dissertation projects. Fish Weir Workshop with Thomas Green from 2 to 4 p.m. on the Bromfield Pearson Lawn at Tufts, hosted by Mystic River Watershed Association. Indigenous knowledge holder Thomas Green will demonstrate how to construct a fish weir, a structure traditionally used by indigenous Massachusett people to sustainably gather fish. Participants will be guided through the process, from understanding historical context to constructing a fish weir together. Registration required.
Medford Farmers Market from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Condon Shell featuring produce, meats, fish, baked goods, beverages, and artisan crafts, plus a kids activity area, face painting, and a neighboring beer garden. "Arnold J. Kemp: Not One Thing" community reception from 6 to 8 p.m. at Adekman Arts Center at Tufts. This the first institutional survey of work by Kemp, who is now based in Chicago but was born in Boston.
Watercolor 101 workshop and Autumn Card Making from 6 to 8 p.m. at Colleen's with Droppingcolors for beginners ages 14+ to learn the basic techniques of painting with watercolors and to put their creations to use in making autumn-themed greeting cards. Register in advance.
U.S. Foreign Policy and the Separation of Powers at 6 p.m. in the Cabot Intercultural Center at Tufts. This is a two-evening event, A Conference on Law, Power, and Democratic Accountability in a Changing International Order. Friday's session will begin at 5:30 p.m. Registration is required in advance for both nights.
Original Poetry Open Mic from 7 to 9 p.m. at Arts Collaborative Medford hosted by Vijaya Sundaram, who is Medford Poet Laureate Emeritus (2023–2025), and guest poets Elizabeth Gordon McKim and Mckendy Fils-Aimé. Register.
