We're starting off this morning with the city's announcement that it is taking comments on, and has scheduled a public hearing about, its Community Development Block Grant performance and evaluation report for the period July 1, 2025, through June 30, 2026.
The report, which is required by the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, outlines how federal funds were used for the city’s CDBG Consolidated Plan. It is available through Sept. 27, 2026, online at www.medfordma.org/cdbg/ and at City Hall in room 308.
Written comments will be accepted through 5 p.m. on Sept. 27. There are two ways to submit:
- Mail (or drop off) to Alicia Hunt, Office of Planning, Development & Sustainability, Room 308, City Hall, 85 George P. Hassett Drive, Medford, MA 02155.
- Email to ocd@medford-ma.gov.
The public hearing is scheduled for Wednesday, Sept. 23, at 5 p.m. in-person at City Hall, Room 207, and via Zoom.

Senior Center Activities: COA Board meeting at 10 a.m.; whist at 10:30 a.m.; Core and Balance at 10:30 a.m.; conversational English at 11 a.m.; Exploring History with Michael Hickey at 1 p.m. – call 781-396-6010 to reserve your seat; Art for Everyone at 1:30 p.m.; LGBTQ+ meet-and-greet at 2 p.m., facilitated by Janice Cole.
Playgroups at the Park from 9 to 11 a.m. at Tufts Park. Hosted by Medford Family Network, the event features art, music, and movement activities, parachute play, bubbles, balls, and storytelling.
Mass General Brigham Community Care Van from 9 a.m. to 2:30 p.m. at Clippership Drive Pop-Up Park. The van is staffed with multilingual and multicultural clinicians and support staff to provide screenings and interventions for chronic health issues.
English as a Second Language (ESOL) Class from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Medford Public Library. This is a beginner-level ESOL class. Registration is required.
Drop-In Playtime from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at Medford Family Network Family Center.
Toddler Time from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Medford Public Library for children ages 2-3 to read, sing and learn gentle movement activities. The session ends with a mini play group.
Lessons in Environmental Diplomacy at 12 p.m. in Curtis Hall at Tufts and via Zoom with Jennifer Baldwin, who is the assistant director of the Yale University Office of Sustainability. RSVP.
Lunch with School Committee member Jenny Graham from 12 to 1 p.m. at Bistro 489 at Medford High School. This is a monthly gathering.
Senior Knitting Club at 1 p.m. at West Medford Community Center. Beginners can learn from experienced crafters.
On Listening: With pianist Emanuel Ax at 3 p.m. in the Granoff Music Center at Tufts. This is the launch of a new series of conversations exploring how we hear music and the world. Pianist Emanuel Ax will be in dialogue with Tufts faculty member Jeremy Eichler.
Lego Club from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for kids ages 5+ to take on a challenge-build with Legos or make their own creation.
Tin Container Candles from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for teens in middle school and high school to put together their own soy candles in tin containers. All materials will be provided. Registration required.
Farmers Market 20th anniversary celebration from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Condon Shell featuring produce, meats, fish, baked goods, beverages, and artisan crafts, plus a kids activity area, face painting, and a neighboring beer garden. Live music will be: Willie T & Doctor X from 3 to 5 p.m.; Cole Larravide from 5 to 6:30 p.m.
Go Mustangs! Middle school boys cross country team is at Chelsea at 4 p.m. and varsity girls soccer is at Somerville at 6:30 p.m.
Rooting with Yoga at 5 p.m. in the Interfaith Center at Tufts. A collaborative yoga series by Hindu and Buddhist Chaplaincy, led by Sabbi Lall of Harvard Divinity School.
Creative Chaos at 5:30 p.m. at Arts Collaborative Medford for children in grades K-2 to explore different art mediums, storytelling, and self-expression. This is the first in a series of six sessions. Registration required.
Adaptive Loteria Game Night for Teens from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for individuals ages 11-22 with intellectual and developmental disabilities. Event includes learning about Mexico's beloved Loteria, making salsa using traditional molcajetes (bowls for grinding ingredients), and playing a game of Loteria and practicing Spanish. Registration required.
High School Building Committee from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. via Zoom. This will be an interactive community meeting to brainstorm sustainability opportunities in the design and construction of the new facility.
Medford Connects ESOL class from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library. This is an early-beginner-level ESOL class.
Medford-Brooks Estate Land Trust (M-BELT) annual meeting from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at West Medford Community Center.
Mom's Night Out from 7 to 9 p.m. at The Establishment with Medford Family Network for Medford moms with at least one child ages birth-6 to share the triumphs and challenges of parenting.
Shearling, Brother Dragon, and A Monolithic Dome perform live beginning at 7 p.m. at Deep Cuts.
Halfway to St. Patrick's Day from 8 to 11 p.m. at Mrs. Murphy's. The fiddler and guitarist of Caeltish kick off the pub's four-day celebration performing Irish favorites, top 40 hits, and classic crowd pleasers.
