Happy Monday, everybody. It's shaping up to be a busy week, and there are three City Council meetings to keep an eye on. There could be heavy rain and high winds today, so check before you go to outdoor events.
Welcome to the first week of August. There are several meetings coming up that I'd like to flag for you this morning.
If you're interested in the issue of affordable housing and its relationship to large development projects in Medford, you might want to attend or watch the City Council Committee of the Whole meeting tomorrow evening.
The committee will be discussing a draft “Medford Linkage Nexus Study: Analysis and Recommendations," which was prepared by Karl F. Seidman Consulting Services. The report has projections on non-residential development, the estimated affordable housing that will be in demand from that development, and potential changes to the linkage fees the city charges to offset the impacts of large developments and to fund affordable-housing-related initiatives.
The regular City Council meeting follows at 7 p.m., and there is a full agenda, including items related to the upcoming election, appropriation requests from the mayor, and a resolution to "support Tufts facilities workers bargaining for a fair contract."
On Wednesday, the Resident Services and Public Engagement Committee will meet via Zoom to discuss publishing a City Council newsletter and to look at the roll-out of ward meetings.
The current proposal for the schedule of the ward meetings is for one meeting per ward to take place over the course of 12 months. The committee will also be discussing the format, facilitation, and outreach for the meetings.

Outdoor Play with Cindy from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at Magoun Park for children ages 4-6 and caregivers. Interactive activities include circle time, problem solving activities, games we used to play.
Paddle Boston – Medford from 12 to 8 p.m. at the Condon Shell, weather permitting. Walk-up anytime to rent a boat. Limited advanced reservations also available. Last boat goes out at 7 p.m. All boats must be returned by 8 p.m.
Crazy Fun Headbands from 3:30 to 4:30 p.m. at Medford Public Library for kids ages 8-12 to create their own. All materials will be provided. Registration required.
Turtle Paintings for Teens from 3:30 to 5 p.m. at Medford Public Library for teens in middle school and high school to follow along with a tutorial and create their own turtle painting.
Ultimate Frisbee pickup from 6 to 7:30 p.m. at Tufts Park with Davis Square Ultimate. RSVP.
STEM Skill Share from 6 to 8 p.m. at Medford Public Library for adults to drop in and work on STEM projects and ask library volunteer Hanjoo for advice and troubleshooting help. Registration appreciated.
