From the Founders: Thank You, and Happy New Year!
It’s been a whirlwind of getting to know residents, business owners, and city officials and hearing about the issues that matter in the city of Medford. To everyone in the community, we say thank you for being here. We are excited to be doing this work with you.
We weren’t all in the same room, or even in the same state, when we pushed the button to set our Gotta Know Medford site live in February of 2025. Wendall was in Florida visiting her parents. Chris was in her car. Nell was at home. It had been two years in the making, and when Nell said, “Let’s just push the button,” we did.
The moment was a bit anticlimactic. But, the 10 months that followed have been anything but! It’s been a whirlwind of getting to know residents, business owners, and city officials and hearing about the issues that matter in the city of Medford.
Along the way, we published 303 posts, and we now have 755 community members signed up to receive emails when new content drops. We’ve been welcomed at events and meetings, had the pleasure of appearing on the cable show Medford Happenings, and been contacted by local business owners interested in forging partnerships.
You have supported us by reading our stories and sending us ideas, photos, and letters to the editor, and by letting us know when something in a story needs to be corrected.
To everyone in the community, we say thank you for being here. We are excited to be doing this work with you.
We also want to thank our fantastic Boston University and Endicott College interns, freelance writers like our sports guru Chris Hurley, and photographers, all of whom have enabled us to cover many more events and issues than otherwise would have been possible, and they brought important story ideas to our attention. We could not do this work without them.
As we head into the new year, we have plans to forge new partnerships and to expand our coverage of people, places, and issues in Medford. You’ll hear more about these in the coming weeks.
Many of you have reached out to us to ask how you can support our work financially, so we will introduce the option of paid memberships for readers and paid sponsorships for local businesses.
To expand our coverage and to connect with more of you, we will start a weekly newsletter that will complement the emails. We are going to hold “office hours” at local businesses, at the library, and in other public spaces, and Wendall will bring her great Dane Sandy to different neighborhoods for “roadside rodeos.”
For now, we send you wishes for a very happy new year and we look forward to another year of working with you.
