Will Mbah is celebrating with supporters tonight after the Associated Press called the 34th Middlesex state representative race for him.
“I feel, extremely, a sense of gratitude, a sense of unity, a sense of pride,” Mbah said from his post-election party at Winter Hill Brewing in Somerville.
Mbah, a Somerville city councilor-at-large who was born in Cameroon, said the experience has been extremely humbling. He said when he came to the United States 16 years ago, he never imagined he would be a candidate for state representative.
“I’m just ecstatic,” he said.
The AP called the race a little after 10 p.m. with preliminary results showing:
- Will Mbah – 3,745 votes
- Paul Ruseau – 1,924 votes
- Chris Oates – 1,250 votes
The unofficial results released by Medford Director of Elections Jim Blatchford show:
- Paul Ruseau – 1,279 votes
- Will Mbah – 1,240 votes
- Chris Oates – 494 votes
In Somerville, the unofficial results show:
- Will Mbah – 2,505 votes
- Chris Oates – 756 votes
- Paul Ruseau – 645 votes
Mbah credits his team for his successful campaign.
“I always say you are only as strong as the people around you,” he said.
