On Saturday afternoon, Medford Square will be host to the Medford Chamber of Commerce Oktoberfest, a community gathering with music, food, demonstrations, kids activities, a pet costume parade, local businesses and restaurants, school groups, and community organizations.
"At this event there will be plenty of great food, vendors, plenty for children and parents to do, and of course an Oktoberfest band," says Oktoberfest Committee Chair Tina Caruso. "We will have entertainment all day and plenty of beer!"
The beer garden will be set up near the stage on Riverside Avenue, so people can have a beer and listen to the band.
Riverside Avenue will be closed off so people can walk between the rows of tents, booths, and activities.
If you look at the photos posted to the Chamber website, you get a sense of the diversity of organizations that participate and the spirit individuals bring to the day. You'll see traditional dress, first responders doing community outreach, a martial arts demonstration, kids having fun with face painting, artists and makers showing their creations, and local businesses, from the bank to the ice cream shop.
The Chamber describes the event this way: "Oktoberfest truly feels like a Medford day in the Square, bringing people together and highlighting the pride, connection, and spirit that make Medford such a special place."
Riverside Avenue will be closed in the morning so vendors can set up, and the event kicks off at noon and goes until 4 p.m. The pet costume parade is at 2 p.m.
