Good morning, Medford, Friday, June 5
It's Friday. It must be time for the monster GKM calendar that covers events today through Sunday.
Happy Friday, everybody. We're talking about the arts today, not only because these next three days are chock full of music of all kinds, but also because there is a fundraiser going on tonight for a small, non-profit, community theater that nearly lost its ability to stage productions in Medford.
Mystic Players Revival is having a karaoke fundraiser this evening from 7 to 11 pm. at Hillside Community Church.
The group was notified late last year that the rate they would pay to rent the McGlynn for rehearsals and productions was being drastically increased because of a change in policy made by Medford Community Schools, which handles rental agreements for school facilities.
Mystic Players Revival Board President Margaret Petrella said she had been concerned the group would not be able to find another space in Medford and would not be able to continue here as a community theater.
Hillside Community Church welcomed the group, and in February Mystic Players Revival staged their February production, "Magic to Do Cabaret." Now, they are gearing up for their fall musical season, which you can learn more about on their Instagram page.
Stay tuned today, by the way, because we'll have stories on the Farmers Market's 20th anniversary season and on the Medford High School Class of 2026.
