As city councilors and School Committee members from Medford and Somerville, we know what it means to fight for our communities. Paul Ruseau has been our friend and fierce advocate for our schools and families over the past nine years, and he has won huge victories for Medford’s kids.
We are endorsing Paul for state representative for the 34th Middlesex District
because we know he will deliver for our cities when he’s on Beacon Hill.
Paul has helped transform Medford’s schools — from teacher compensation to how we show up for the most vulnerable kids — and he knows how to get things done in government. That’s why he’s not just endorsed by all of us, but by former state Rep. Carl Sciortino, our public school teachers at the Massachusetts Teachers Association, Sierra Club, and more.
He represented the Medford Public Schools at the negotiating table and secured contracts with 10 unions that lowered class sizes, guaranteed parental leave, raised average teacher pay by 62%, and more than doubled paraprofessional starting pay from $14,800 to $32,381.
Through Paul’s leadership, every Medford student now has free school meals and free dental checkups at elementary schools — no lunch debt, no shaming, no family charged, ever.
Paul has been a prolific legislator — writing and bringing folks together to implement over 30 policies that ended loss of recess as a punishment, stopped ineffective out-of-school suspensions, rewrote the dress code to stop unequal treatment of girls, and more.
Paul’s life story is why he’s running. His childhood experiencing homelessness and food insecurity — without access to medical, dental, or mental health care taught him that government needs to protect the most vulnerable and make sure everyone has a stable home, enough to eat, and a real shot at a good life.
From housing stability and health care access for working families to more funding for our schools and fighting for affordability and fairness for all of us, Paul has our back and he knows how to deliver. That’s why we’re so excited to work with him as our partner at the State House.
