Happy Local News Day, readers!
Today is the first Local News Day — a national day of action to support and celebrate the trusted local journalism that strengthens all our communities. If you value the work we do at Gotta Know Medford — whether it’s holding public officials accountable, covering local schools, or shining a light on neighborhood stories — this is the day to show your support.
Across the country, people are stepping up today to support their local newsrooms. Your action today helps ensure our expanded government and politics coverage continues.
Last year, we founded Gotta Know Medford with the hope of bringing local news and sports coverage to the city of Medford and its residents. More than 800 residents have signed up with us and GKM has gained nearly 5,000 unique views on our stories every month.
Medford residents have supported us by reading our stories and sending us ideas, photos, and letters to the editor, and by letting us know when something in a story needs to be corrected. You have trusted us to bring you stories on what matters most to you, whether it’s the city’s re-zoning efforts, the new Medford High School building, new businesses coming in or what’s going on in your neighborhoods.
Many of you have reached out to us to ask how you can support our work financially. We don’t have the backing of large corporations, which means we depend on readers who believe in the importance of independent local journalism.
Every contribution helps us continue telling the stories that matter. And if supporting us isn’t possible right now, please know your readership means just as much.
Thank you for being part of our community and letting us be part of yours.
